Delays hit Danish-Ukrainian missile factory project

Safety setbacks and scrutiny tied to Ukraine’s Operation Midas probe are slowing progress at the planned Danish-Ukranian missile and drone factory

Plans to establish a Ukrainian missile and drone factory in Denmark have encountered delays and regulatory setbacks.

According to Danish media reports, Fire Point has been linked to the Ukrainian corruption investigation known as Operation Midas.

The investigation has been under way for several months, with media reporting emerging in December. Fire Point told DR, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, that the subsequent negative coverage slowed approval processes linked to the project.

Fire Point is constructing a missile and drone production facility in Vojens, near the Danish Air Force base at Skrydstrup. However, the project was forced to restart after existing facilities at the site failed to meet safety requirements, according to DR.

Production of solid rocket propellant had originally been planned within an existing building at the Skrydstrup site. However, the Danish Business Authority said this proved impossible because of multiple safety-related requirements.

A new building must therefore be constructed at the site to comply with the safety requirements. This work is ongoing, the Danish Business Authority said in a written response to DR.

The factory is owned by Danish-registered company FPRT ApS.

In September, Danish defence minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced plans for the facility, and ground was broken on the site in December.

At that stage, Ukrainian media reports had already suggested that Fire Point could be connected to a broader corruption investigation in Ukraine.
